I have an old lamp that I often use as a prop in my performance art pieces. Last time I attempted to use it, the cord caught on fire due to damaged wiring.
Today I spent in my studio starting to repair the lamp and it was a major undertaking. I still need to fabricate a flanged wood bottom but will probably make it really rough and then cover with a texture. While in the library to scan some textbook material for my class, I quickly flipped through the recent copy of Artforum Magazine. Found a beautiful picture of the Basilica of the Fourteen Holy Helpers located in Germany. This church is an amazing representation of late Baroque, one of my favorite periods. Afterward, I searched online for more pictures. Then I found an article and picture featuring the artwork of the filmmaker Derek Jarman. I did not realize he had created works like this series that used unconventional mediums such as tar and other mixed media. I really like them. I've been feeling especially down the last few days and glad I forced myself to attend the collage group. I sorted a bunch of source materials today.
I was really out of it today and was quickly aware that the experiences and drawings were subpar. This was my favorite drawing for the day.

Tonight I was especially excited to attend the art opening featuring two artists. One of the artists is Kal, who is a good friend. He is one of the sweetest guys ever. I've also followed the second artists work for some time. This is my favorite piece that is not only mysteriously magical, but aesthetically beautiful. Close-up Close-up
Today had mixed experiences. I had some very loose and quick drawings that I like but then others that were fussy and took way too long to complete. This was my favorite drawing of the day.
I spent the session sorting though magazines and starting a new collage. Airy's work in progress. Our mess.
I could tell instantly starting today that it was going to be a challenge to gather enough energy needed to produce sketches that were satisfactory. I like the small leg drawing and that is about it. I invested a bunch of energy in the last drawing, but it was difficult to sustain this. Perhaps if I invested more time, I may find a place of peace with it. My favorite drawing of the day (above)
I felt uninspired by many of the poses, which left me feeling a tad disappointed. That said, I did create some sketches which I like. I even took an old drawing that I disliked and attempted to make it better.
